Farmers Market to Open at Farm Show Complex
HARRISBURG -- Colorful, flavorful, and nutritious, locally grown produce returns to the Pennsylvania Farmers Open-Air Market at the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center today, May 6. “Pennsylvania is a national leader in the production of many fruits and vegetables,” said Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff. “Local foods are at the peak of freshness and are some of the most nutritious, affordable and delicious products available. Each year, thousands of people buy the region’s best plants and produce, celebrating Pennsylvania’s rich agricultural heritage by supporting local farmers and the state’s economy.” New and returning vendors to the Farm Show Farmers Market offer a variety of fruits, vegetables, breads, cut flowers, and bedding plants for purchase. While shopping at one of Pennsylvania’s more than 1,000 farmers markets, consumers should look for the PA Preferred™ label. The Department of Agriculture promotes Pennsylvania produce and products through the PA Preferred™ branding program, which helps consumers know they have chosen food grown and processed in Pennsylvania to meet the world's highest quality and safety standards. For a complete list of Pennsylvania farm markets, visit www.agriculture.state.pa.us and click on “Consumers” and “A Consumer’s Guide to Farm Markets.” The seven-month outdoor farmers market is located just off of North Cameron Street, along Industrial Drive, in the PA Farm Show Complex & Expo Center parking lot.
