Offers a Guided Tour of Fish Farm
HOLTWOOD -- Susquehanna Aquacultures Inc., growers of farm-raised hybrid striped bass, is one of the largest facilities in the country to use warm water from a power plant for fish farming. The facility has been in operation since 1988 and provides 400,000 pounds of fresh striped bass each year. PPL Brunner Island will be leading a tour of the Susquehanna Aquacultures Fish Farm at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28. The tour, which is free and great for all ages, will begin at PPL’s Brunner Island fishing area. Visit http://www.pplweb.com/brunner+island/contact/directions.htm for directions. Space is very limited. Registration is required by May 25. For more information or to register, contact Karen Ament at 717-284-6274 or kament@pplweb.com. PPL’s Brunner Island power plant, located on the west bank of the Susquehanna River about 15 miles downstream from Harrisburg, Pa., generated more than 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2007. That’s enough to power about 1 million households. PPL is hosting the program as part of PPL Project Earth, an initiative to educate people about energy resources and the environment.
