2008 4-H and Open Draft Driving Clinic to be held in June
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Bill and Laureen Knapp of KnappTyme Percherons will conduct a 4-H Draft Driving clinic in June. The clinics are open to the general public as space permits. Clinic participants will learn how to prepare, harness and drive draft horses and ponies, with emphasis on proper turnout and safety techniques for handling and driving. Current 4-H driving rules and procedures also will be included as well as industry standards. Bill and Laureen Knapp own and operate KnappTyme Percherons in Findlay, OH. They have been involved with draft horses for over thirty years and have judged in several major draft horse shows throughout the United States. They also currently show their Percherons in several states. Bill and Laureen have been very instrumental in educating youth and adults on draft horse safety, driving and showmanship throughout their years in the draft horse business. The clinic will be held on this date: --June 24 at Centre County Fairgrounds in Centre County. The clinic will begin at 5 p.m. and conclude at dark. Late arrivals will be accepted until 6:30 p.m. if prior arrangements are made with clinic coordinators. Because the clinic is limited to 20 horses/ponies and carts, pre-registration is required. Verification of a current rabies vaccination and current negative EIA (Coggins) is required for all animals. Clinic fees are $10 for 4-H members and $15 for non-members with carts and horses or ponies. Spectators will be admitted for $5. The program promotes development of horsemanship skills, while encouraging responsibility, self-confidence, sportsmanship, and responsible care of project animals.
