Pedal to Preserve 2008 Announced
LANCASTER
--
Lancaster Farmland Trust is pleased to announce the 2008 Pedal to Preserve bicycle ride fundraiser. In its 11th year, the leisure biking event is sponsored by First Priority Bank. First Priority Bank, headquartered in Malvern, PA has decided to give its name and financial support to the Trust for this special bike tour that features Lancaster County’s pristine, preserved farmland.
“First Priority Bank is proud to support Lancaster Farmland Trust in its farmland preservation efforts. The Trust’s mission of preserving our home, our harvest, and our heritage is vital to our quality of life,” said David E. Sparks, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “This private, nonprofit organization is a national leader in farmland protection, and I am excited for First Priority Bank to play a role in assisting small business owners, our farmers, in an effort that benefits the whole community.” “With ride distances for cyclists of all abilities, Pedal to Preserve is a great opportunity to enjoy a morning ride with family, friends, and neighbors. So gather up as many participants as you can and encourage them to ride along as you help preserve scenic Lancaster County farmland,” said Rob Barber, Pedal to Preserve Committee Chair. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2008 and offers leisure routes of 6, 20, and 51 miles. All rides begin and end at Garden Spot High School in New Holland, PA. "The Pedal to Preserve event puts participants right in the middle of the Lancaster Farmland Trust's defining purpose: the pristine farmland for which our area is famous," said Representative Scott Boyd, a member of the Pedal to Preserve Committee. "Riding the rolling hills of this event helps participants to really appreciate the necessity of efforts to preserve our farms." The well-marked routes allow riders to meander through the heart of Lancaster County with breathtaking views of over 75 preserved farms. In addition, the event includes a hot lunch, water and rest stops, snacks, and free Turkey Hill Dairy beverages and ice cream for all. Special thanks to Janelle Stelson of WGAL Channel 8 television for serving as honorary chair of the event and to our Gold Medal sponsor, PP&L Electric Utilities. Register online at www.lancasterfarmlandtrust.org Registration is $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the event. Children under 12 ride free with an adult. Lancaster Farmland Trust is a private, non-profit organization working to preserve the rich and productive farmland of Lancaster County, support good stewardship of the land, and encourage a thriving agricultural economy, recognizing that our farm heritage enriches the lives of all citizens. |
