Benefit Auction to Support Premier National Junior Dairy Events
HARRISBURG — Going once, going twice, gone! Bidders at the 2008 All-American Dairy Show Youth Benefit Auction will have the chance to take home top-quality merchandise on Sunday, September 14. The auction is set for 7 p.m., in the Equine Arena of the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg.

All proceeds of the auction will benefit the Premier National Junior Events, “Harrisburg 2008 – Where Youth are Stars,” the nation’s only three-day event for juniors held at a national dairy show. The youth event runs September 13-16 with seven national junior dairy shows, a national-level showmanship contest, dairy judging and junior dairy challenge.

Auction items will be on display at the All-American Dairy Show before the sale starts. The list includes a hand-crafted oak blanket chest, hand-painted breed items, pottery, an Amish quilt, gift baskets, Singing Brook Dairy half-gallon milk bottle, full-color Holstein World advertisement, hoof trimming and fitting services, and hunting trips.

Embryos from the following farms will be auctioned:
* Ayrshire from Maple Dell Farm, David Patrick family, Woodbine, Md.
* Brown Swiss from Old Mill Farm’s Snickerdoodle, Allen Bassler family, Upperville, Va.
* Guernsey from Snider Homestead Farm, Brad and Bernetta Gable, New Enterprise, Pa.
* Holstein from Windy Knoll View Farm’s Pledge, James Burdette family, Mercersburg, Pa.
* Jerseys from Ernie Kueffner, Boonsboro, Md., and Hillacres Jerseys, Tom Arrowsmith family, Peach Bottom, Pa.
* Milking Shorthorn from Hard Core Farm, Keith Fisher family, New Enterprise, Pa., or Designer Genes, Denise Whiting, Slippery Rock, Pa.
* Red & White: Fradon Holsteins’ Jodie, Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

Calves from the following farms will be sold by silent auction through September 17:
* Ayrshire form Sunny Acres Farm LLC, Doug E. Evans family, Georgetown, N.Y.
* Brown Swiss from Dublin Hills Farm, Dennis Smith family, Woodsboro, Md.
* Guernsey from O.C.S. Dairy, O. Clayton Smith family, Jefferson, Md.
* Holstein from Savage-Leigh Farm, Wayne & Cindee Savage family, Knoxville, Md.
* Jersey from Sandy McCauley, Carlisle, Pa.
* Milking Shorthorn from Hard Core Farm, Keith Fisher family, New Enterprise, Pa., or Designer Genes, Denise Whiting, Slippery Rock, Pa.
* Red & White from Lawrence-Haven Holsteins, Paul Lawrence family, New Castle, Pa.

The Holstein and Red & White calves will sell through the Eastern Elite Sale on September 17. Items are still being considered for the auction.
