Three directors were also elected. They include Brian Snyder, Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture; Chris Herr, PennAg Industries; and Ray Diebold, Dairylea Cooperative, Inc. Beverly Gruber was retained as Executive Secretary of the Association. Various by-law changes were made concerning classes of membership, voting privileges, and annual meeting date and times. The “Yellow Book” committee report was given by Brenda Shambaugh, Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts. This is the legislative ag agenda that is presented to the governor and the legislators. All present were encouraged to keep up to date on the latest information by visiting the website, www.pscfo.com. One of the premier projects of the Council is the publication of a thirty-six page agricultural directory listing contact information for over 175 agricultural organizations in the commonwealth. If you would like a copy of the directory, call 610-767-5026 or email lowhill@rcn.com and one will be mailed to you. At the conclusion of the meeting, outgoing President Walt Peechatka was recognized for his excellent service to the organization for the past two years. The afternoon program topic was “Ag Workforce of the Future - Immigration,” coordinated by Gregg Robertson, Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association. Panelists included Keith Eckel, a large vegetable farm operator, Chad Forcey from Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association and Fred Strathmeyer, a Christmas tree grower and landscaper. The program was very informative and a very lengthy question and answer period followed the panel discussion. The day concluded with the “Cornucopia: Taste Pennsylvania” reception held for over 150 legislators and guests in the lower concourse of the Capitol with over twenty organizations displaying their commodity products.
