Legislation Targets Bay Region for Conservation Funding to Reduce Pollution
HARRISBURG
-- The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) Thursday applauded an unprecedented $440 million in additional conservation funding for the Chesapeake Bay region, expected with the passage of the 2007 federal Farm Bill. The funding is critical to the health of local farms, and water quality in rivers, streams, and the Chesapeake Bay.

PA Farm Bureau: U.S. Congress Passes Balanced Farm Bill

-- Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) says the comprehensive Farm Bill passed by the U.S. House and Senate will benefit a wide variety of nutritional, agricultural and environmental programs, while providing an equitable safety net for American farmers.

Coalition to Congress: Vote for Farm Bill Conference Report
BILLINGS, MT -- A coalition of 557 organizations – including R-CALF USA and several of its affiliates – sent a formal letter to the full House and Senate today to request enough votes in support of the 2008 Farm Bill Conference Report to override any presidential veto.

New Law Will Help Communities Meet Phosphate Reduction Goals
HARRISBURG
-- Legislation authored by state Senator Mike Brubaker (R-Lancaster) to help reduce phosphates entering the state’s waterways was signed into law Tuesday, May 13. Originally Senate Bill 1017, this legislation amends the Phosphate Detergent Act to virtually eliminate the amount of phosphate allowed in automatic dishwashing detergents. The bill was unanimously approved by both the state Senate and state House of Representatives before heading to the Governor’s desk.

Senate Agriculture Committee Addresses Food Safety, Biofuel Production Incentives

-- Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee members have approved three pieces of legislation and a resolution, Committee Chairman Mike Brubaker (R-Lancaster) said. The bills address food safety, the Puppy Lemon Law, and Farms to Fuels.

-- Pennsylvania Farmers Union commended members of the U.S. House-Senate Farm Bill Conference Committee today, following an announcement that the key negotiators had reached a farm bill agreement that will benefit the Keystone State’s farmers, ranchers and consumers.
