The Organic Farming Technique



Organic farming is known to be the original form of agriculture that has been practiced for thousands of years. An organic movement had began in 1940, after the industrial revolution had introduced other inorganic methods, which some products were not successfully developed and provided serious side effects. The movement was a reaction of the growth reliance on synthetic fertilizers.

Organic farming is the type of agriculture, which relies on several techniques such as the following: Green manure, crop rotation, compost and biological pest control for controlling pests on a farm and to maintain productivity of the soil. This type of farming uses pesticides and fertilizers. It strictly limits the usage of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers such as: Insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, hormones, genetic modified organisms, food additives and antibiotics. Crops are one of many products produce by organic farmers. What is organic food?. Organic foods are the type of foods that are produced with the usage of methods, which does not involved modern synthetic inputs such as chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides. The demand for this type of food is primarily for the concern of the environment and personal health. In the United States, organic food is known to be the fastest growing sector of the American food market.

The organic farming methods used for the successful production of goods are the following: 1- Soil management, 2- Weed management, 3- Controlling other organisms and 4- Genetic modification. These agricultural methods are regulated by the IFOAM. The International Federation of Agricultural Movements also known as IFOAM is the international umbrella organization for the organizations of this type of farming founded on 1972. This organization defines this type of farming as a production system that maintains the health of ecosystems, soils and humanity.

Organic fertilizers are primarily used for organic farming. Some examples of these fertilizers are the following: Worm casting, manure, seaweed, guano, slurry, etc. Nowadays organic stores can be found worldwide since the increase of popularity of this farming method.
